After 18 Years, Hanung Bramantyo Returns to the Horror Genre with His Best Performance in 'Trinil: Kembalikan Tubuhku'
This horror thriller first premiered in theaters on January 4, 2024. Directed by Hanung Bramantyo, 'Trinil' is set in the tea plantation areas of Central Java. The screenplay, co-written by Hanung Bramantyo and Haqi Achmad, is adapted from a popular radio drama of the same name from the 1980s.
After an 18-year hiatus from the horror genre, Hanung makes a comeback with his latest film 'Trinil: Kembalikan Tubuhku,' which tells the story of a married couple, Rara and Sutan, who are ready to start a new life after their honeymoon. Rara is the sole heir to the largest tea plantation in Central Java, while Sutan returns to work as a nurse at the hospital. However, their beliefs are shaken when Rara experiences sleep paralysis and is haunted by a headless ghost who repeatedly delivers the message "Trinil, return my body."
The film offers a compelling mystery and goes beyond mere appearances or jump scares, delivering lessons about the importance of family care, especially between a mother and child. The performances of the three main actors, Carmela van der Kruk, Rangga Nattra, and Fattah Amin, are also highly praised.
Hanung Bramantyo's latest horror offering since 2006 has garnered 835,126 viewers in its first month of release. 'Trinil: Kembalikan Tubuhku' is now available for streaming on Netflix.
