The latest film by director Hanung Bramantyo titled "Ipar Adalah Maut" (Brother-in-Law is Death) was released in Indonesian cinemas on Thursday, June 13, 2024, and has now successfully garnered 2.6 million viewers within its 12 days of screening.
Originating from a true story told by TikTok Content Creator @elizasifaa through 24 short videos, Indonesian filmmakers were intrigued to adapt it for the big screen. Eventually, under the same title, the film was directed by Hanung Bramantyo in collaboration with director Manoj Punjabi from the production house MD Pictures.
"Ipar Adalah Maut" will follow the storyline of the original account. Eliza narrated the tale from the perspective of a wife named Nisa who faces significant betrayal in her marriage by her husband and his own sibling.
The story begins with the young couple Nisa and Aris, who have a daughter named Raya. This small family builds a harmonious household together.
However, the harmony doesn't last long; tragedy strikes when Nisa's younger sister Rani moves in with them. Rani was asked by their mother to live with her sister while studying in the same city.
"Ipar Adalah Maut" stars several talented Indonesian actors and actresses, including Michelle Ziudith as Nisa, Deva Mahenra as Aris, Davina Karamoy as Rani, Alesha Fadillah as Raya, and Dewi Irawan as Asri.
In addition to its release in Indonesia, "Ipar Adalah Maut" will also be screened in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.
