‘Gowok: Kamasutra Jawa’ Scores Seven Nominations at the 2025 Indonesian Film Festival
Hanung Bramantyo’s Film, Gowok: Kamasutra Jawa, has got public attention after earning seven nominations at the 2025 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI).
The film received nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Film Editor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Makeup Artist, Best Costume Designer, and Best Original Screenplay.
Centered on the gowok tradition, in which women were traditionally tasked with teaching young men or those preparing for marriage about sexuality, the film explores an unconventional and provocative subject rarely depicted in Indonesian cinema.
